Required editor training: Friday, October 25 at 1pm PT (4pm ET) (Zoom; will be recorded for those who cannot make it; 1 hour, or 1.5 hours for clinical editors; returning editors will not be required to attend the entire training, and will instead be sent a short recorded refresher video that they will be required to view instead)
Deadline to complete training for all editors: Thursday, October 31 by 11:59pm PT (2:59am ET on November 1) (new editors: attend the live training, or watch the recording of the training; returning editors: attend the live training, watch the full recording of the training, or watch the shortened ‘refresher’ video).
Recommended editing workshop: Friday, November 1 at 9am PT (12pm ET) (Zoom; due to the nature of this workshop, it will not be recorded)
Statements sent to editors: Saturday, November 2 by 7am PT (10am ET).
Statement feedback due from editors: Thursday, November 7 by 6pm PT (9pm ET).
Editors should block off time during the Edit-a-Thon (Nov. 2 - 7) for reviewing statements - we recommend 30 minutes per statement. Who are the editors?
ASFP’s heart is our editors - the volunteer academics who show up to make a difference for hundreds and hundreds of applicants. Without them, there is no program! You can view complete lists of the volunteer ASFP 2024 Editors by category here: Clinical, Developmental, Social, and Cognitive. These pages list each editor’s name, role (faculty, postdoc, or PhD student), institution, and their areas of expertise. Every piece of feedback submitted by ASFP editors is also checked by the ASFP Core Team and/or ASFP Feedback Reviewers prior to being sent to applicants. Thank you to all of the ASFP 2024 Editors for volunteering!
Editors By Role
In all, 274 psychological scientists from a total of 124 institutions were trained as editors in 2024. These editors volunteered to give 1,385 pieces of feedback on applicants’ statements for admission to psychology PhD programs.
Editors By Category
Editors indicated expertise roughly evenly distributed across the four categories of psychology programs supported by ASFP 2024: Clinical, Developmental, Social, and Cognitive, with the end result that editors had a capacity by category for up to 647 Clinical reviews, 232 Developmental reviews, 231 Cognitive reviews, and 275 Social reviews.
(the number of editors summed across categories was larger than the total number of editors because a few editors had expertise in more than one category)
